Fourth Senior Title for Codd

The recently retired Jamie Codd was crowned Champion Senior rider for the fourth time when finishing his season on 19 winners two ahead of his nearest rival Derek O’Connor.

The Wexford rider called time on his glittering point-to-point career after teaming up with his long-time ally Denis Murphy to win the four-year-old geldings maiden at the South Westmeath point-to-point at Tattersalls aboard Supreme Gift in May.

Codd registered his first point-to-point winner in 2001 aboard Eyze at Bramblestown in a five-year-old geldings maiden.

From his 19 winners this season, he had three trebles and four doubles, his biggest supporters were Denis Murphy providing him with nine winners, three for Gordon Elliott and two for Colin Motherway.

Amongst his winners this season was sales topper Grangeclare West after he impressed when landing a division of the four-year-old maiden at this local track Lingstown for handler Denis Murphy.

The son of Presenting who raced in the colours of Edelle Logan was acquired by Cheveley Park Stud at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale for £430,000.

Codd finished his point-to-pointing career as the second most winning rider in the sport’s history finishing on a career total of 972.

Previous winners of this award include; Derek O’Connor, James ‘Corky’ Carroll, John Thomas McNamara, Damian Murphy and Paul Cashman.
