Getaway sires his 22nd winner of the season

The Coolmore stallion Getaway sired two winners over the weekend to bring his tally up to 22, more than any other stallion so far this season.

The first of Getaway's progeny to record success was Five Star Getaway at Courtown on Sunday. Handled by Shirley Berry, the gelding got off the mark at the second time of asking in the hands of Shane O'Rourke, having pulled up on his only other start at Knockanard in February. The gelding will most likely head to the sales now.

Panthers Creek was the second son of Getaway to record success last Sunday. The bay found success in the older maiden at Rathcannon for owner and handler Michelle Gannon. The six-year-old was third on his last start at Ballyragget in March.

Getaway has also produced some exciting four-year-old point-to-pointers this season including Deploy The Getaway, Sporting John and Generation Text.

The Donnchadh Doyle handled, Deploy The Getaway, was an impressive 20-length debut winner at Tallow in February. Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins subsequently purchased the gelding for £200,000 at the Cheltenham February sale.

Sporting John, a winner at Borris House for Matthew Flynn O'Connor in early March went on to be purchased by Kieran McManus for £160,000 at the Cheltenham Festival sale. The runner up in that race, Generation Text who is also by Getaway, finished just two-and-a-half lengths behind the winner for Denis Murphy.

The sire, a Grade 1 winning son of Monsun, stands at Grange Stud for a 2019 fee of €7,500.
