Limerick fall forces Codd to the sidelines

Jamie Codd is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a partially collapsed lung in a fall at Limerick on Friday.

The Wexford native, who has had a busy Christmas which included riding Gordon Elliott’s Folsum Blue to finished eighth in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow, was aboard Elliott’s Triumph Hurdle winner, Farclas, in the Grade 3 Irish Independent Hurdle at the Munster course when the pair suffered a heavy fall at the third flight of hurdles in the two-mile contest.

Dr Jennifer Pugh, chief medical officer for the IHRB, told Press Association: “Jamie suffered a partially collapsed lung and is due for a scan later today (Saturday), but we’d expect him to be discharged afterwards.

“He’s looking at about one month on the sidelines.

“He was sitting up having a cup of tea last night (Saturday) and joking about how his nose didn’t escape without injury either, so he certainly hasn’t lost his sense of humour anyway.”

Codd has currently ridden 13 winners this season between the flags having also ridden his 800th point-to-point winner at Loughanmore in November.

This injury comes eight months after his 2018 spring campaign was brought to a premature end with a fracture of his L3 vertebra at Ballysteen back in April.
