David Christie Jr was among the winners at the Irish Thoroughbred Industry Awards, which took place at the Keadeen Hotel in Kildare recently.
The son of leading point-to-point handler David Christie, Christie Jr is a regular figure on the northern pointing circuit in particular, where he has assisted his father in the training of many well-known names in the sphere, including the record-breaking Winged Leader.
Involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of their family yard in Fermanagh, his role requires a broad and demanding skill set, encompassing horse care, staff management, and overall business operations.
The judges found that David consistently demonstrated exceptionally high standards across every aspect of his role. He can turn his hand to any task required and approaches each responsibility with professionalism, care, and attention to detail.
David is described as a true professional who cares deeply for his horses, managing them to a standard regarded as second to none. His knowledge, organisation, and commitment ensure that standards never drop, regardless of pressure or workload.
David has a strong and positive influence within the workplace. He is approachable, kind, and always willing to help or offer advice. As a highly experienced and knowledgeable horseman, David readily shares his expertise with others. His leadership style fosters strong morale, trust, and a positive working environment throughout the yard.

Racecourse Award: Listowel Racecourse won the Racecourse Award. Chosen by the Irish Stable Staff Association, this accolade recognised the County Kerry racecourse’s exceptional commitment. Based on a quality programme evaluation, all racecourses across Ireland were assessed on various criteria, including the standard of facilities, amenities, and the overall environment provided for the industry's dedicated workforce.
Each of the award winners received a specially commissioned trophy by sculptor Ani Mollereau and €4,000. In addition, for the Newcomer Award, Administration Award and Irish Thoroughbred Industry Employee Award winners, €2,500 was awarded to their employers to be used for the benefit of each winner’s colleagues.
