Lingstown second Star Cave a notable sales addition

Star Cave is an exciting wildcard addition to the ThoroughBid November Sale after she was catalogued following an eye-catching second-place finish at Lingstown just last Sunday.

John Byrne’s daughter of Court Cave is very well related, being out of a half-sister to the 2022 Scottish National winner Win My Wings, whilst her siblings include the 143 top-rated Macs Charm and the dual track winner Monatomic.

Star Cave came close to adding to the family's victories in Lingstown, as having twice previously finished placed, she was one of two horses to break clear leaving the back straight, setting up a titanic tussle up the home straight with the well-backed favourite.

It was only on the run-in that she had to settle for second-best as the pair pulled a notable 90 lengths clear of the third-place finisher, herself a horse who had only been beaten by two lengths on her most recent start.

With that recent form to her name, Star Cave is sure to be a popular addition to Wednesday’s sale, which gets underway at 9am.

She features in the catalogue alongside Pour Les Filles (Lot 16), who headlines Gordon Elliott’s nine-strong consignment for the sale.

He was sent off the 7/2 favourite that day, and having shown a high level of form previously, including when fifth in the Grade 2 bumper at the Grand National Festival at Aintree in April 2023. Pour Les Filles is a horse Elliott is sure can do well for new owners.

Elliott said: “He has loads of options for the future. He’s a multiple winner with some very decent form in the book and is also versatile in terms of ground. He remains unexposed in handicap company as a six-year-old and has a very nice page as well. Fingers crossed he can go on to give somebody plenty of enjoyment on the track.

“We’ve sold over 50 horses with ThoroughBid now and continue to enjoy plenty of success at their regular monthly sales. It’s hassle-free and often yields good results, so we’re keen to keep selling with them”

Elliott is also selling impressive 15-length bumper winner Carsons Dreamboat (Lot 20). The six-year-old daughter of My Dream Boat sailed clear to win a Clonmel bumper in May and is closely related to winners over obstacles.

Recent ThoroughBid sales have proved successful for Elliott, with the likes of Mars Harper (sold to Sarah Humphrey for £30,000), Old Bridge (sold to David Pipe for £20,000) and Battleoverdoyen (sold to Max Comely for £13,000) all being sold on the online platform.

The November Sale has attracted a good mix of entries, including recent bumper runner-up Ledecka (Lot 19), and a host of nicely-bred youngstock, including National Hunt stores by Blue Bresil and Kew Gardens.

James Richardson, CEO at ThoroughBid, said: “It’s great to see Gordon Elliott entering nine horses into our November Sale, continuing his support for ThoroughBid, having reached the milestone of selling over 50 horses with us.

“We strive for variety in our sales and our November Sale catalogue is no different with Elliott’s Pour Les Filles (Lot 16) and Carsons Dreamboat (Lot 20) particularly strong additions, as well as NH youngstock by Frontiersman, Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius.”
