Video Archives | The Pigeons March 2000

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  We are starting with the 2000 videos.

The next fixture we look at is the South Westmeath Hunt point-to-point at The Pigeons in March 2000.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

Gordon Elliott claimed the opening the race at The Pigeons fixture in the 2000 aboard Kilquire in the Confined Hunt Race.

Meath native Jimmy Ryan won the five & six-year-old maiden aboard Beausheram.  The pair kept on gamely to deny Lough Ennell View and Aidan ‘Scobie’ Fitzgerald by two lengths.

Monty’s Sister put in an impressive performance when winning the five-year-old mares maiden by 15 lengths for handler Robert Brabazon.  The six-year-old daughter of Montelimar was guided to victory by Norman Geraghty. Monty’s Sister is the Dam of Castlebrook and Red Hanrahan.

The Winners of One contest went the way of Simply Run in hands of Denis Cullen. The seven-year-old stayed on well in the closing stages to register an eight-length victory over Narrow Water.

Friars Island took the Open Lightweight in good fashion under local rider Jim Derwin.

Wicked Crack stayed on best in the closing stages to take the seven-year-old & upwards maiden under a strong drive from Alan Fleming. The Eddie Hales trained Wicked Crack went on to be a useful sort when winning six times under rules.  Wicked Crack is also the Dam of Cue Card.

David Broad took the concluding seven-year-old & upwards maiden aboard Uno Numero.  Their victory was helped with the exit of Johann Sebastian and There For Nowt both coming to grief two fences from home.
