IHRB ANNOUNCE SEMINARS ON PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES – MANAGING THE RISK

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) today announced that it will hold three Seminars to advise
trainers, handlers and their staff and veterinarians on reducing their risk of positive tests, which have
increased significantly in recent months, and to provide an update on the types of substances involved.

The seminars ‘Prohibited Substances – Managing the Risk’ will be held on:

1. Thursday, 6th September 2018 at City North Hotel, Gormanston, Co. Meath from 7-9pm, (after
Laytown races);

2. Wednesday, 26th September at the Offices of the IHRB, The Curragh, Co. Kildare from 2.30-
4.30pm, and

3. Wednesday, 3rd October at the Horse and Jockey Hotel, Horse and Jockey, Co. Tipperary from 7-
9pm (after Cork Races).

IHRB Chief Veterinary Officer/Head of Anti-Doping, Dr. Lynn Hillyer and IHRB Veterinary Officers, Nicola
O’Connor and Alan Dunlop will lead four short presentations followed by a question and answer session.

The Seminars will provide insight into:-
• What substances are involved in the current cases – sources, why now and why does it matter?
• What happens in a prohibited substance case – stages of analysis, investigation, Referral, outcomes
• The role of the laboratory
• How ‘positives’ can be prevented
o Understanding exposure to prohibited substances and managing it
o Understanding the Medicines Register, Detection Times, stand downs and withdrawal times

Council of Ireland to secure CPD credits for attendance at these seminars.

Places are limited, and anyone attending the seminars should confirm attendance and the venue at which
they will be attending, by email to equine@ihrb.ie or by phoning Michelle Daly on 045-445600.
