Red Acres Max a highlight as Goff has profitable night at the sales

Mick Goff was responsible for the top-priced point-to-pointer as Goffs staged its third successful Coral Gold Cup Sale at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday.

The Wexford handler had sent out Red Acres Max to make a winning debut at Dromahane in early November, when the son of Maxios was partnered to victory by Goff’s son Harry.

Tom Malone was the successful purchaser when his bid of £240,000 secured the bay gelding.

A Sight To Sea brought more recent point-to-point form to the sale, as he had made his winning debut just six days before entering the Newbury sales ring.

Paul Pierces’s son of Affinisea had opened his account at Lingstown, and that clearly impressed Ryan Mahon secured the bay for £190,000, and he will now go in training with Dan Skelton.
Having already secured Red Acres Max, Tom Malone was also successful in securing A Real Banter from Rob James.

That Jet Away gelding looked to have victory sewn up at Moig South before tiring on the run-in and having to settle for the runners-up spot.

Malone’s bid of £165,000 secured him for trainer Jamie Snowden.

Dan Asbury, Garry Wilson and Adrian Keatley all combined to secure the French-bred Diamant Dore after his eye-catching debut at Kirkistown.

The Martinborough gelding was sitting in a close second when falling at the last, but that trio were suitably impressed and secured him for £125,000.

The eventual winner of that Kirkistown contest, Locker Boum, was a fifth point-to-pointer to change hands for a six-figure sum when Dermott Owens and Willie Twiston-Davies purchased him for £100,000 to conclude a profitable evening’s trade for the French bred’s handler Mick Goff.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented:

“Today marked the third edition of this sale, which is held in partnership with Newbury Racecourse, and it was great to achieve a 94% clearance rate, a rise in the sale average and another big price at the venue with Minella Academy selling for £370,000. He is the third horse to sell for £300,000 at this venue following the top price of £320,000 last year and Un Temps Pour Tout, who set the record back in 2013 when selling for £450,000.

“We have been very busy over the last three days with all the major owners and trainers viewing the horses, and we would like to extend our thanks to the point-to-point handlers who have supported this sale once again.

“We would also like to extend our thanks to the Newbury Executive for their continued support of this sale, and of course to our purchasers who we wish the very best of luck. We now turn our attention to the Goffs December NH Sale, which will offer a superb catalogue of NH foals & breeding stock on 8 – 10 December.”
