Stowlin has proven itself to be a leading source of future champions, and the East Galway committee is gearing up for the latest edition of their annual fixture, which will take place on Sunday, May 4th.
Just days before, Bambino Fever, the latest exponent for the fixture’s high-quality graduates, could bid to win her second Grade 1 of the season, as she is among the entries for the Punchestown Champion Bumper at the Kildare venue on Wednesday.
Now under the care of Willie Mullins, she remained unbeaten when taking her tally of wins to four in the Cheltenham equivalent last month, when defeating Heads Up by a length and a half.
That came less than a year after she had started her career, winning the Tattersalls NH and The Bleahen Family four-year-old mares’ maiden at the Galway course when trained by Nicky Stokes.
Two years earlier, the four-year-old maiden on the card was won by Chapeau De Soleil, who has progressed to win at the Punchestown Festival, whilst the 2018 edition of that race was arguably one of the strongest maidens run all season long.
The race was won by Monkfish, who was trained by Cormac Doyle at the time. The four-time Grade 1-winner had a trio of subsequent Grade 1 winners among his opponents, with Fury Road having finished fourth, Fiddlerontherook in fifth, whilst Chantry House unseated rider three-out, having been in front at the time.
Once again, there are a pair of four-year-old maiden races on the card, with the committee currently describing the ground as Yielding, Soft in places. The track was spiked ten days ago, and the ground will be closely monitored and watered if necessary closer to the raceday.
