Big Leg Up impresses at Downpatrick

The Boardsmill Sires maiden hunters chase at Downpatrick was claimed in good style by the Gerry Cosgrave trained Big Leg Up.

The seven-year-old gelding was guided to victory by Wexford based rider Simon Cavanagh.

Cavanagh settled his mount in mid-division, the pair made smooth progress to dispute the lead approaching four out, when soon left in front with the departure of Duty Calls and Brian Lawless.

The Ian Moore owned gelding stayed on well in the straight for a comfortable 10 length victory over the locally trained Dento Des Obeaux.

Big Leg Up showed plenty of promise last season when winning his maiden at Tattersalls, he had disappointed this season when failing to complete on both his starts earlier this season.

The favourite Saint Benedict was beaten in third when making a bad mistake and unseated his rider at the last fence.
