Irish point-to-point graduates will be among the horses going in search of a big pay day on the Far Hills card on Saturday night, which features America’s richest steeplechase, the $450,000 Grade 1 Grand National.
The main race itself, which is run over 2m 5f, does not feature any pointing representatives, however they hold big claims on the supporting card where there are a number of big purses up for grabs in their own right.
The chief supporting race, the Foxbrook Champion Hurdle, has been divided two ways and each division carries a total prize pot of $125,000.
Detroit Blues is among the nine entrants in division two, as he lines up for trainer Richard Hendrick and Rosbrian Farm, with Ross Geraghty set to take the ride aboard the eight-year-old, who had begun his career by winning a four-year-old maiden for Tipperary handler Roisin Hickey.
The concluding New Jersey Hunt Cup will feature the formerly Aidan Kennedy-trained Two’s Company, who will look to improve upon his third-placed effort in the National Sporting Library & Museum Cup at Virginia Falls last weekend.
The now nine-year-old had finished third at Inchydoney on his fourth and final outing between the flags for Kennedy and has really thrived with the switch to American timber racing, as a former champion timber horse.
Irish-born jockey Sean McDermott takes the mount aboard the Jack Fisher/Burton Street-US trained and owned gelding, whilst point-to-point regular Eddie Keating had also secured a mount in the $50,000 race, as he teams up with the Katherine Neilson-trained and Irvin S. Naylor-owned Aquies.
