Shane Cotter, from Conna in County Cork, made an immediate impact on the point-to-point circuit. Within two months of his first ride at Tinahely in October 2023, he partnered his first winner aboard Billy Codd’s Special Prep at Lingstown. A successful partnership with David Christie supplied six winners in that opening season, including two aboard champion point-to-pointer Winged Leader. He finished the campaign with 15 winners to be crowned champion under-21 rider.
Shane regained the under-21 title in 2025/26, finishing strongly to overturn David Doyle’s lead. His sixteenth winner, aboard Sam Smoke at Ballingarry, left him two clear and made him a two-time winner of the award alongside Timmy Murphy, Davy Russell, Derek O’Connor, Barry O’Neill and Shane Fitzgerald. The season also brought his first Cheltenham Festival success aboard the Cath Williams-trained Ask Brewstar in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Chase.
