James O'Reilly had the support of the likes of P.J. Healy, Patrick McCarthy and James Dullea, for a total of 15 rides during his debut season in the 2017/18 campaign, with the latter providing him with his Irish points debut debut, at Killeagh in January 2018 aboard Mac's A Marvel. Whilst the Cork natives first success in Ireland came in December 2019, he already had five British point winners to his name having spent a time working with Sheila Crow in North Shropshire, following a previous spell with Nicky Henderson. That first Irish success came courtesy of the James Dullea-trained Itscatrionaschoice at Mainstown.
