Sean Staples first rode in a point-to-point towards the end of the 2016/17 season in a four-year-old maiden at Courtown, and was well-supported by the Ashleigh and Michael Murphy team who supplied him with his maiden winner, Redbridge Gold, who came home in front at Lingstown in March 2018. The move to go freelance whilst studying at UCD was rewarded as Staples enjoyed his best season to date during the 21/22 campaign when recording 11 winners including aboard the big-priced seller Seeyouinmydreams.
