Michael O'Sullivan comes from a renowned pointing family, with his father William a former amateur rider, uncle Eugene, a Champion Handler, cousins Maxine a Cheltenham Festival winner, whilst his younger brother Alan has also joined the riding rank. Having made an immediate impact to his first full season in the saddle, winning aboard A Decent Excuse on the first day of the 2017/18 season, a further four winners followed whilst also studying for his Leaving Certificate, in addition to a maiden track success, when the 2018 Champion Mare, Wilscosdiana, came home in front in a Hunter Chase at Cork over Easter. A year later and the UCD student was crowned Champion Under-21 rider with a personal best 16 wins. In September 2022, O'Sullivan joined the professional ranks.
