Day one of the Tattersalls Ireland July store sale started strong with Brian Lawless signing for the first wildcard of the sale, Lot 4 €52,000 from Mayne Kidd and Jackie Ferris of The Glebe Farm.
The three-year-old gelding is by Harzard and is out of Aiguille Rouge who is a half-sister to Grade 1 Supreme Novices Hurdle winner Labaik.
Lawless told Tattersalls Ireland: ‘He will go for a point-to-point and then will be for resale, hopefully we will get to Tattersalls Cheltenham in the Spring. He is a fine model and a fine specimen of a horse and he moved well. We are happy to get him, and will be a few of us involved.’
Jonathan Fogarty who had a very successful point-to-point season continued his restocking when he purchased the top Lot 32 an Order Of St George gelding for €55,000 from Niall Bleahen’s Liss House.
Fogarty remarked afterwards: ‘He will go back to Gaynestown to be broken and go point-to-pointing in the Spring. He is a quality horse, a lovely mover, and is out of Shantou mare, everything I like! He is the first Order Of St George I have had.’
Another Wexford handler to put his hand up was Luke Murphy, he bought Lot 222 for €32,000. He is a son of Soldier Of Fortune and is a half-brother to three Flat and hurdle winners including the Listed-placed Red Kimi.
Luke Murphy said: ‘He was bought for Tom O’Sullivan to go point-to-pointing, I will train him down in Gorey. The stallion is proven and he was recommended by Pa Doyle. I saw him earlier in the day and he gave a great show, and he was the same going into the ring. He is a good, solid horse and looks like he can do the point-to-point job anyway.’
There were 259 lots on offer on the opening day with 155 sold returning a turnover of €1,381,950 which were on par with the sale’s opening session in 2024.
There were eight horses sold for over €30,000 with the top price of €55,000 given for the wildcard entry lot 32 a son of Order Of St George which was knocked down to Jonathan Fogarty’s Gaynestown.
Day two of the Tattersalls Ireland July Store Sale will commence at 10am on Thursday morning.
