The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr J.P. Murray, rider of Locker Boum (FR), placed fourth, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 4yo Geldings Maiden.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(c) in that he had used the whip unnecessarily after his mount had obtained its maximum placing.
Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr J.P. Murray for one Point to Point raceday.
The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr S. Staples, rider of Guseakie, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 5yo & Upwards Geldings Maiden.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(b) in that he had used his whip unnecessarily after his mounts chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone.
Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr S. Staples for four Point to Point racedays.

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr S. Cotter, rider of Cool Customer, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 4yo Geldings Maiden – Division 1.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(i) in that he had used the whip without allowing or appearing to allow his mount at least three strides to respond.
Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr S. Cotter, for one Point to Point raceday.
The Acting Stewards enquired into the circumstances which led to the late withdrawal of Are You Joking, a declared runner in the 4yo Geldings Maiden – Division 2 in accordance with Regulation 24 (ii)(a)(i), which resulted in the maximum number of runners for this race being exceeded in accordance with Regulation 8 (vi)(a).
Evidence was heard from Derek O’Connor (Handler) who stated that he withdrew Are You Joking due to ground conditions.
Having considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards accepted Mr O’Connor’s explanation and took no further action.
