Rogan Claims Under-21 Title

The final weekend of the point-to-point season proved to be crucial for Pearse Rogan as he picked up his first point-to-point award after winning the Under-21 Title.

Rogan who was two behind Liam Gilligan going into the final weekend, registered three winners over the final  weekend finishing on a total of eight winners, one clear of rival Liam Gilligan and two clear of former under-21 champion Michael O’Sullivan and Sean Staples.

He completed a double at Kirkistown.  His first winner of the day at Kirkistown came in the five-year-old geldings maiden aboard the Donnchadh Doyle trained Galunggung.  The pair had to share the spoils with the Colin Bowe trained Rathmacknee after the judge declared a dead heat.

Rogan’s second winner of the afternoon came aboard the Philip McBurney trained Creadan Grae who took the open lightweight in good style when defeating Marinero by four lengths.

Secret Scripture supplied Rogan with the all important winner when landing division two of the five-year-old geldings maiden at Grennan for his boss Donnchadh Doyle.

Wexford native Rogan had only partnered his first winner between the flags this season when winning the five-year-old geldings maiden aboard Fiston Du Mou at Dromahane in December for handler Donnchadh Doyle.

Rogan has been attached to the Doyle stable over almost two years now, this has proved to be a successful relationship with seven of eight his winners coming from Donnchadh.

From his 60 rides, he was in the winners enclosure with eight winners, seven seconds and five thirds and rode for 12 different handlers.

Unfortunately the final days meeting was abandoned after division two of the five-year-old and upwards mares maiden with four races left to run including the novice riders race.
