Fifth Ladies Title for Maxine OSullivan

This years’ shortened point-to-point season saw reigning Ladies Champion Maxine O’Sullivan pick up her fifth Ladies Title.

The Cork native registered four winners this season, her first winner came aboard Broomfields Kan at Dromahane. The son of Arakan was trained by her father Eugene O’Sullivan.

It was her father that also supplied her with her second winner of the season when winning the five-year-old and upwards mares maiden at Kinsale aboard New Money.

The champion lady riders' next two winners came in quick succession when winning aboard Marinero in the Ladies Open at Necarne, the pair combined again the following week when winning the Ladies Open at Ballingarry.

It was also a day to remember for David Christie at Ballingarry, as the Fermanagh-based handler recorded his 300th winner in the point-to-point sphere with the success of Marinero in the Ladies Open.

Owing to the shortened season there were only three Ladies Open Lightweights run this season; Mainstown (December), Necarne (May) and Ballingarry (May).

Maxine O’Sullivan won two of these opens with Rachel Kelly winning the Mainstown Open Lightweight aboard the Barry Connell trained Dom Dolo.

Six ladies were on the scoreboard this year;
