Ginto proved to be the most sought after lot at Friday afternoon’s Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale which was held as a live online auction from their Fairyhouse sales ring owing to the Covid-19 restrictions.
The €60,000 store made a winning debut at point-to-point course in Tattersalls adjoining the sales complex last month, when running out an impressive 12-length winner under Jamie Codd.
The son of Walk In The Park is set to remain at Gordon Elliott’s Cullentra House Stables after he was knocked down to owners Noel and Valarie Moran for €470,000 following an intense auction which saw an opening offer of €200,000 for the four-year-old.
The Co. Meath owners who have added a number of promising point winners to their team of horses with Elliott in recent times including the £255,000 purchase Hollow Games, and they also acquired the second most expensive horse at the sale, parting with €270,000 to secure Gringo D’Aubrelle.
The French bred son of Saddler Maker won his four-year-old maiden at Loughanmore last month by three and a half lengths, and having been sourced by Donnchadh Doyle for €68,000 at the 2019 Derby Sale, it marks a notable result for the Monbeg Stables operator.
Doyle also sold his impressive Curraghmore winner Gentlemansgame for €250,000 after he was bought for €250,000 by Mags O’Toole.
A total of four recent four-year-old winners realised six-figure sums with the Ocovango gelding Percy Warner selling for €100,000 when Gordon Elliott’s Umma House winner was bought by owner Basil Holian.
Holian of Westerwood Global fame recently enjoyed success at Gowran Park with another of his purchases from the point-to-point fields, having bought Colin Bowe’s Knockmullen House winner Visionarian at last year’s December Sale in Cheltenham.
Elsewhere, Brian Hamilton’s Free Handshake, who had chased home Gringo D’Aubrelle at Loughanmore last month was bought by Gavin Cromwell for €95,000, Mags O’Toole also bought Colin Bowe’s Curraghmore four-year-old mares’ maiden winner Magic Daze for €92,000, Denis Murphy’s unlucky Rathcannon final-fence faller His Oscar joins Rebecca Curtis, whilst last Sunday’s promising Damma House five-year-old winner Promising Milan was bought by Tom Malone and Nick Mitchell for €70,000.
