The Very Man completes four-timer with Galway Listed success

The Very Man brought up a four-timer when he recorded a straight forward success in the Listed Play The Tote Jackpot Novice Hurdle.

Tracking fellow former point-to-pointer Telmesomethinggirl throughout the 2m 1/2f contest, Davy Russell produced the 11/8 favourite to lead going well after the penultimate flight, and the famous Galway hill posed Gordon Elliott’s charge no problems as he eased clear.

Owned by Gigginstown House Stud, he ultimately crossed the line two and three quarter lengths clear of Willie Mullins’ Getaway Gorgeous, with the pace-setting Telmesomethinggirl a further half-length back in third.

The versatile performer, who won his point-to-point at Loughanmore for Stuart Crawford, was recording his fifth success under rules and continues a profitable spell over hurdles in recent months following consecutive victories at Naas, Downpatrick and Roscommon.

The six-year-old could well turn out again within 24 hours, as he is the favourite for Thursday’s Guinness Novice Hurdle at 7.15pm and Gordon Elliott’s assistant Ian Amond indicated that a bid for a quick Galway double could well be on the cards.

“It’s a good prize there a nice race to win with him giving weight away to a few of them. He is going the right way, Davy (Russell) was very happy with him and said that his jumping is getting better and he did it easy enough and is in again tomorrow so I would imagine he might go again.

“He is a horse that stays going well, so look we will get him home in the morning an Gordon (Elliott) will get a look at him and have a chat with Michael (O’Leary) and see what they want to do but I would imagine that he would go again.”
