Video Archive | Tyrella February 2000

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  We are starting with the 2000 videos.

The first meeting in our video archives is Tyrella which was held in February 2000, it was a busy fixture which saw nine races.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

The opening contest, the Adjacent Hunt Race was won in good style by Wishbone in the hands of Peter Buchanan.

Denis Cullen took the Winner of Two contest aboard Wotsitooya defeating Gawngadinn and Robert Patton by four lengths.

Kevin Ross now a bloodstock agent was seen to good effect when taking division two of the Winners of Two aboard Bellaney King.

O’Fiach’s Hope stayed on well under a strong drive from James McGurgan to take the Open Lightweight.
McGurgan registered a double on day when winning the six-year-old maiden aboard Did You See Poppy.

Our Boy and Cathal Swords stayed on gamely in the five-year-old maiden to deny Joe Blake and Liam Lennon by 8 lengths.

In division two of the six-year-old maiden, Heart O Corn was first past the post but the race was subsequently awarded to Indian Raider and Brian Hamilton as the winner was found to be a seven-year-old by the vet and was disqualified.

The 11-year-old son of Mandulas, Mahankhali ran out an impressive victory of the seven-year-old and upwards maiden in the hands of Robert Quinn.

It was the mare Lady Denel who took division two of the seven-year-old and upwards maiden.

Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle winning trainers Gordon Elliott and Gavin Cromwell both rode on the day as did Simon McGonagle.
