Remarkable 15-year-old Salsify entered for Naas Hunter Chase

With an impressive record of 11 hunter chases to his name, including back-to-back Cheltenham Foxhunters', Rodger Sweeney's charge is set to return to action at Naas on Sunday.

His comeback run last season in Navan from what was a one-year layoff, was very encouraging, finishing third beaten 11 lengths behind Ucello Conti.

The Sweeney family have had some very memorable days with their son of Beneficial, ever since the day that he won his five-year-old geldings' maiden at Lisronagh.

His first hunters chase success came at Clonmel the following February where he won by a comfortable 12 lengths under Ciaran Fennessey.

March 2012 saw him win his first Foxhunters' chase at Cheltenham, where he was ridden by Colman Sweeney (son of trainer, Rodger).

The following June, he went across the water once again, where he won the Stratford Champion Hunters' chase.

It wasn't long before the following March came about, and this was when the star hunter chaser scored by a wide-margin of 20 lengths.

He then returned to Punchestown at the end of April where he was extremely impressive, winning by a comprehensive 35 lengths.

The remarkable 15-year-old has had two successes in hunters' chases since that day, winning at Fairyhouse and Cork respectively.
"He's in good form at home, as enthusiastic as ever," said his Cork based trainer, Rodger Sweeney.

Connections are unsure yet as to how the veteran will be campaigned for the remainder of the season.

"We will see what he does on Sunday and we will take it from there."
