UK POINTING

UK Point-to-Point Round Up | 1st December

Two UK point-to-point meetings were scheduled to take place at the weekend however due to waterlogging the Border point-to-point at Hexham was abandoned, leaving just the Hursley point-to-point at Larkhill.

There was a strong representation of former Irish pointers present at Larkhill point-to-point, which played host to the first race of the Tattersalls four and five-year-old maiden race series, with one former Irish point-to-pointer returning to the winners’ enclosure.

Larkhill, Wilshire

ITV presenter Luke Harvey saddled his first winner of the season, as his new acquisition Raised With Praise landed the concluding Open Maiden at Larkhill.

The son of Getaway fended off the persistent challenges of the Francesco Nimmo-trained On Parole by battling gamely in the closing stages to score by three quarters of a length under Darren Edwards.

Harvey bought the bay gelding at Doncaster in May and nicknamed him ‘Eric’ after Irish trainer Eric McNamara, as he always gives his horses a stable name based on trainers.

The six-year-old got off the mark on his debut run in England, having had no success in Ireland after running a handful of times for handler Joseph Casey last season, with his best effort being at Strabally last April where he finished third.
