Harney receives Stud and Stable Staff Award nomination

Point-to-Point rider Tom Harney features among the 24 finalists that have been announced from over 300 nominations for the 2019 Irish Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards.

The Kildare native has had 15 rides to date between the flags since making his debut in a winner-of-one race at Bellharbour in last year, with the majority of his rides coming for his boss Ross O’Sullivan.

It was for his work with the Kill-based O’Sullivan that he received his nomination within the “Newcomers Award” category, alongside fellow finalists Cheryl McClean from Wille McCreery’s stable, and Chris McGill, who is based with Shark Hanlon in Carlow.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Killashee Hotel in Naas on Tuesday October 29th, and one of that trio will pick up a specially-commissioned trophy that has been created by sculptor Ani Mllereau and also receive a trip to Dubai, plus €2,500.

The two runners-up nominees will each receive €1,000.

Harney started his new season on Sunday, when he was aboard the veteran Old Supporter for Louis Hill in the open lightweight for novice riders at Castletown-Geoghegan on Sunday.
