Weekend Preview | Loughrea

Race 1: Goffs UK Autumn P2P Sale 4yo Maiden

The Donnchadh Doyle-trained BUCKS BINS finished within two lengths of the now four-time bumper winner, Longhouse Sale, on his debut at Dromahane, and that would leave him as the one to beat here. The Colin Bowe team won two of the three four-year-old maidens that were run last weekend and there representatives cannot be discounted in this, with Monsieur Darque having finished fifth at Bellharbour. Highate Hill is a horse that travelled well for a long way at Oldcastle, whilst Mistermoonboy is a horse with some respectable efforts from the spring.

Race 2: The Pier Head Bar & Restaurant 5yo Geldings Maiden

The John Halley-trained ELTON CROSS certainly sets the benchmark in this following two very consistent third-placed finishes at Dromahane and Kinsale at the tail end of last season. If picking-up here where he had left off, he will surely not be too far away. Rathcannon second, Different Spot, who is from the family of Enda Bolgers prolific Cross Country performer Spot Thedifference, and the twice fifth-placed Cool Destination are others with form for the shortlist.

Race 3: Bruce L Tilley Memorial 5yo Mares Maiden

Track recruit HOLLOW CREST could be a big player in this having run well in bumpers at Cork and Limerick last season and may be the one to watch on her jumping debut. Meadowview took a big step forward late last season and has to be respected, whilst Chenery could be an interesting newcomer that represents the same connections as champion point-to-pointer Sydney Paget.

Race 4: Renvyle House Hotel & Resort and MacDermot & Allen Solicitors Open

A competitive looking race where the first two horses home from the opening open of the season at Castletown-Geoghegan last Sunday could be set to re-oppose. Ourmanmassini got the upper hand over Vinnie Luck on that occasion and will be looking to once again confirm those placings. Eddies Mircale, stable companion to Vinnie Luck, is a prolific winner in this sphere and another very capable individual. Of the track recruits, Arctic Skipper is a Grade 2 winner, Stand Up And Fight chased home Al Boum Photo in a Graded hurdle at Fairyhouse in 2017, whilst Xsquared is a 142-rated chaser who is back from a long absence.

Race 5: Jim Derwin Winner Of One

The Kieran Purcell-trained FREEZING OSCAR was a comfortable winner of his maiden at Ballingarry in June, having been running in some competitive races prior to that, and he would seem the one to beat in this. The biggest challenge could come from either Blue Morpho, a debut Dromahane winner, or the mare Lively Beat, who was a facile winner at Castletown-Geoghegan last Sunday, and will have the benefit of a five-pound weight allowance as she takes on the geldings.

Race 6:  6yo Geldings Maiden (Novice Rider)

A wide open race that could go the way of any of the six entrants which includes the likes of track recruits Doldrum Bay and Niamhs Oscar. The former was previously campaigned in the Chris Jones colours by Andrew Lynch and could be of interest on his debut for the Paurick O’Connor yard.
