Monkfish ruled out for season

Cheltenham Festival winner Monkfish has been ruled out for the season having suffered a tendon injury.

The gelding has come a long since he scored for the first time in a point-to-point at Stowlin for Wexford based handler Cormac Doyle. He won on four of five starts last season during his novice chase campaign.

His season highlight was his victory in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices Chase at the Cheltenham Festival carrying the familiar colours of Susannah and Rich Ricci.

The son of Stowaway is now a four-time Grade 1 winner and was one of the market principles in the betting for the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Trainer Willie Mullins revealed that seven-year-old has an issue with a tendon which requires the season off.
