Second Grade 1 Success for The Mean Queen

The Mean Queen registered her second Grade 1 victory when landing the Grade 1 Lonesome Hurdle at Belmont Park on Thursday.

The Keri Brion trained mare who now races in the colours of Buttonwood Farms LLC put in an impressive performance when picking up well in the straight to see off the challenge of US champion Snap Decision by two lengths.

The five-year-old was partnered to victory by Richie Condon, who won aboard Heaven Help Us at this years Cheltenham Festival. The 25-year-old has been enjoying a successful campaign with Brion since relocating there in May for the Summer.

Since crossing the Atlantic, The Mean Queen has won all four of her completed races following successes in Fairyhouse and Wexford, having inherited the Fairyhouse race following a subsequent disqualification.

The former Wexford trained mare only won her point-to-point maiden at Loughanmore eleven months ago for Wexford handler Ellen Doyle.
