WATCH: ITM Stallion Showcase - Castlehyde Stud

The ITM Irish Stallion Showcase 2021 puts the spotlight on some of the top stallion farms in Ireland where champions of the Flat and National Hunt produce the superstars of tomorrow. 

Castlehyde Stud located in County Cork is part of the Fermoy fabric.  The Magnier Family come from Fermoy and they started standing stallions just down the road at Grange Stud before acquiring Castlehyde.  

They stand some top class flat stallions and they also haven’t ventured too far from their roots standing a good selection of National Sires which include; 

Maxios a new recruit to the roster, he came from Germany. He has being very popular with breeders.  He has 13 blacktype horses on the flat from his first two crops including 2019 German Oaks winner Diamanta. 

Order Of St George is another sire featured in the ITM video, he is a fine big imposing horse, he was a multiple Group 1 winner and champion stayer in 2016 and 2017.   He went to stud in 2018. 

Castlehyde is also home to Westerner who has notched up eight point-to-point winners already this season. 

His most recent was winner Donny Boy who ran out a four length winner of the four-year-old geldings maiden at Dromahane for handler Aidan Fitzgerald. 

Connies Choice was another winner to mention, he won his four-year-old geldings maiden at Boulta in November for Wexford handler Cormac Doyle. 

Westerner produce have a great record in point-to-points, he is also sire to Grade 1 Champion Bumper winner Ferny Hollow, who started his career between the flags when winning his maiden at Knockanard for handler Colin Bowe.  He was subsequently purchased by Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins for £300,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham February Sale. 

Castlyhyde Stud is also home to Yeats another top class national hunt sire.  He is sire to some top class individuals such as De Rasher Counter, Shattered Love and Chantry House who all started their careers between the flags.

Sunday morning inspections for all three fixtures

There will be 8am inspection at Tinahely, Kildorrery and Lisronagh due to the forecast of heavy rainfall on Sunday morning.

Closing date for Thurles Hunters Chase

Entries for the hunters chase at Thurles, close on Thursday 27th February at 12 noon.  The meeting itself takes place on Thursday 6th March.

Precuationary inspection announced for Knockanard and Punchestown

There will be a 7am inspection on Saturday morning at both the Cork and Kildare venues following heavy recent rainfall.
