Bumper entry for rescheduled Clonmel Hunter Chase

Following the announcement on Wednesday that the point-to-point season would be pausing, the rescheduled Rathronan Maiden Hunter Chase at Clonmel has received a bumper entry of 35.

Originally due to have taken place on February 7 before the track was frozen off, the 2m 5f race now comes at the ideal time for owners and handlers who enter a period of uncertainty as to when they will be able to next run their horses between the flags.

With the field size for the January 19 race getting a place in the final line-up will be the first challenge for the potential runners which is headed by the recent Limerick Hunter Chase runner-up Super Citizen.

The seven-year-old represents the combination of the unrelated Eugene and Alurie O’Sullivan who were successful last March in the Cheltenham Foxhunters, and was last seen chasing home the Foxhunters-fourth Staker Wallace.

A number of this season winners in the pointing fields could also feature, including Templebredin, who is the only other horse to have won in open company following his success at Boulta before Christmas.

Arctic Comet and Fiston Du Mou complete the other last time out winners among the 35 entries which will be whittled down to the final field of 14 at the 48-hour declaration stage at 10am on Sunday.
