Video Archives | Ballon January 2003

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  The next year we are adding videos from is the 2003 season.

The second meeting from 2003 we are adding to the archives is the Carlow Farmers point-to-point fixture at Ballon.

Below is a re-cap of what happened on the day.

The opening race at the Carlow Farmers point-to-point at Ballon, the ladies open was in good fashion by Sober Performance in the hands of Liz Doyle. Sober Performance and Liz Doyle won a total of 13 point-to-point races together.

Division one of the six-year-old geldings maiden was won by Neutron Vin and Jamie Codd.

Dimitri and Garrett Power took division two of the six-year-old geldings.  The pair kept on gamely on run-in for a five length victory over Jakers.

The winners of one contest saw an impressive winner in Camden Carrig who home strongly in the hands of J D Moore.

William Ulsterman and Brian Hamilton landed the open lightweight, the pair stayed on well close home to see off Apremont and Alan Fleming by a length. Apremont went on to win the Ladies Cup under Alan Fleming at the Punchestown festival.

Shesnotthefirst and Peter Fahey stayed on well from the last to get up and deny Ifwisheswerefishes and Jamie Codd in the opening division of the five and six-year-old mares maiden.

Ardlea Star showed admirable battling qualities when getting back to lead close home to claim division two of the five and six-year-old mares maiden.

Foursure and Gordon Elliott were impressive winners of the seven and eight-year-old geldings maiden.

The concluding race of the day, division two of the seven and eight-year-old geldings maiden was won by Red Nell and William Codd.
