Foxhunter Heroes | Attitude Adjuster & Ted Walsh

The Foxhunter Chase is one of the oldest races at the Cheltenham Festival with the first running of what is now the most valuable Hunter Chase in Britain or Ireland, taking place in 1904.

Since 1946, the impressive trophy has crossed the Irish Sea a total of 12 times, the latest coming this year with the popular family success for the O’Sullivan’s and It Came To Pass.

One of the first Irish successes in this period was came in 1986 when Attitude Adjuster at a price of 10/1.

Carrying some well-known colours in the silks of Sue Magnier, his success was particularly notable, as he was the first six-year-old to win the race in 35 years when Ted Walsh (pictured above) crossed the line aboard Mouse Morris’ charge.

The success was the culmination of a rapid rise through the ranks for the youngster, having only made his debut in a Lisgoold maiden 14 months earlier, before adding successes at Tipperary and Thurles later in the 1985 season.

Flash forward a year to his Foxhunters winning campaign, and the son of Deep Run won open’s at Patrickswell and Gowran Park under Walsh before taking in a successful trip to a Hunter Chase at Thurles en route to Prestbury Park where he would win in fine style, defeating British hope Further Thought in the process.
