UK Point-to-Point Round Up 11th March 2020

Former Irish pointers enjoyed 14 winners in UK points last weekend across five different meetings. The graduates have come from 13 different handlers based in Ireland. We take a closer look at some of the standout winners.

Saturday, 07th March 2020

Didmarton, Glousteceshire

The Dennis Pugh-trained Doc Carver found success in the Novice Riders Conditions race when battling it out with The Last But One on the run in, with the son of Lakeshore Road and Rebecca Pugh hanging on grimly to get up by a head on the line. The nine-year-old has now recorded back-to-back successes in UK points, having scored in a novice rider conditions race at the beginning of February at Chadelsey Corbett.

Originally handled by Mark Clifford in Ireland, the gelding got off the mark in Irish points at the sixth time of asking by ten lengths at Monksgrange back in 2017.

Ampton, Suffolk

Former Irish pointer, Tullys Touch, returned six lengths clear of his rivals in the five-runner men’s open race for handler John Ibbott. The Touch Of Land-sired gelding made his UK point-to-point debut back in January and has claimed victory in four out of his seven starts.

The seven-year-old ran several times in Irish points, with his best effort being in a five-year-old geldings’ maiden when he was placed second at Bartlemy in 2018 for handler Richard O’Keefe.

Alnwick, Northumberland

Gold For Thyne was second on his debut when pointing in Ireland Sean Doyle back in 2015 at Fairyhouse. The son of Robin Des Pres then went onto enjoy a spell under rules for Donald McCain where he had a total of five career successes before returning to points in January.

Ray Owen has trained the nine-year-old since then with the gelding got off the mark at the third time of asking in UK points when running out a two-length winner over the De Bee Keeper in a Mens Open on Sunday.

Great Trethew, Cornwall

The Dean Summersby-trained Chosen Lucky recorded his 14th career success in UK points  when getting the better of Talk Of The South by six lengths, who was the only other finisher in this three runner contest in the hands of Dean Edwards.

The son of Well Chosen began life with Wexford handler Shirley Berry back in 2016 when running in three Irish point-to-points.

Dalton Park, Yorkshire

Former Richard Cotter inmate, Dubai Quest, enjoyed success in the Members Conditions race on Saturday. The Son of Dubai Destination began his career in Irish points when finishing third on his debut in a six-year-old maiden at Kilfeacle in January 2019, he then got off the mark at the second time of asking when landing the six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Tallow a couple of weeks later and he ran twice more after this placing twice on both occasions.
