UK Point-to-Point Round Up 19th February 2020

Only one out of the five UK point-to-point fixtures scheduled to take place this weekend went ahead due to weather conditions.

There was a strong representation of former Irish pointers present at Brocklesby Park point-to-point, which saw Irish point-to-point graduates win four out of the seven races that took place on the day.

We take a closer look at some of the former Irish pointers who recorded wins below.

Saturday, 15th February 2020

Brocklesby Park

The Robin Tate-trained favourite Absainte found success in the Members Conditions race when recording a 15-length victory for owners The Armstrong Partnership. The daughter of Saint Des Saints has been a consistent and genuine performer having recorded four wins and one second last term.

Originally handled by Tony Martin in Ireland, when getting off the mark at the fifth time of asking at Portrush in a five-and-six-year-old mares’ maiden in 2017.

Duhallow Tornado preserved his unbeaten record in points by adding a third success to his tally when battling it out with King Of The Clothe in the Mixed Open race to get up by a head on the line. The son of Golden Tornado has also scored in three hunter chases.

The eight-year-old started life out with Louis Archdeacon in Co. Cork and found success in Irish points on his third attempt when winning by a neck in a five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Lisronagh in 2017.

Former Richard Cotter inmate, Dubai Quest, enjoyed success in the Intermediate race on Saturday. The Son of Dubai Destination began his career in Irish points when finishing third on his debut in a six-year-old maiden at Kilfeacle in January 2019, he then got off the mark at the second time of asking when landing the six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Tallow a couple of weeks later and he ran twice more after this placing twice on both occasions.

The seven-year-old ran out a 12-length winner at Thrope Lodge in January and made it two from three this weekend.

Benefaktor once again justified his odds-on favouritism when recording a 12-length length victory in the Restricted race for Tom Ellis in the hands of Ellis’s wife Gina Andrews. The seven-year-old showed has now recorded back-to-back victories having scored in the open maiden at Revesby Park in January.

The son of Beneficial started life out with Cork handler James Motherway having run three times in Irish points with his final effort being his best when he was runner-up in a six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Dawstown in May 2019.
