Watar gets off the mark as he sires first winner of the season

The Moortown Stud sire, Watar has enjoyed plenty of point-point success over the last two seasons, having produced three winners and six placed runners from nine runners.

Caroline McCaldin had a somewhat dramatic start to her season in Castletown-Geoghegan on Sunday as her six-year-old debutante Baby Sean shared victory with the David Christie-trained Pyrios. The six-year-old son of Watar came from off the pace to just get up on the line with the judge then declaring a dead heat and adding yet another success to Watar’s winners.

McCaldin enjoyed another winner from the son of Watar back in March when Brandy Pad secured the five-year-old geldings’ at Durrow. The big bay then went on to be sold for £28,000 the following month and has yet to make his debut on the track.

Some other notable performances from his progeny include, the Peter Flood-trained Kilbrook finished a fine second on his four-year-old debut at Portrush in 2018. Stroud Coleman and Jonjo O'Neill purchased the gelding for £78,000 in April.

Drumlee Watar also recorded success for the sire in the same season when claiming the five-and-six-year-old geldings' maiden at Loughanmore. The impressive ten length winner for Sean and Noel McParlan went on to make £65,000 at the Cheltenham sales and has since been placed twice under rules.
