UK Point-to-Point Round Up | 4th, 5th & 6th May

Ex Irish pointers have yet again found great success in UK point-to-points with a total of 27 wins last weekend. We take a look at where these former Irish horses were produced and how they have been getting on in the UK. 

Saturday, 4th May 2019

Bonvilston

Oscar Fiain recorded an impressive 20-length victory when taking the Intermediate at Bonvilston for Johnathon Philips, this marks the eleven-year olds third success in UK points since 2017. John Carr initially produced the son of Oscar in Ireland back in 2012 before running on the track in Ireland and subsequently the UK. The gelding enjoyed numerous placings before returning to pointing with Philips.

DingleyLegal

The Tom Ellis-trained You Know The Story found success in the mares open maiden at Dingley on Sunday for owners Jane and Martin Wanless. The seven-year-old is enjoying her first season in UK points having begun her racing career last spring under the care of Patrick Cronin in Ireland. The daughter of Getaway placed second at the fourth time of asking in Inchydoney at the end of May 2018. 

Monday, 6th May 2019

Northhaw

Legal Ok recorded his second success in the intermediate race for Philip York on Monday when winning by a ten-length margin. Of his three starts in UK points the seven-year-old has enjoyed two wins and a second place. The son of Echo Light has always been a consistent sort having placed on his Irish pointing debut and finding success at the second time of asking for David Harry Kelly last autumn. 

Vauterhill

The Philip Rogers-trained Upton Funk recorded a five-length success in the mares open maiden at Vauterhill on Monday. The nine-year-old fended off challenges from the eight runner field to claim her first success of the season. Originally handled by Mary Twohig in Ireland the daughter of Brian Boru ran six times before moving to UK point-to-points. 

Mollington

Bonamargy claimed success on his UK pointing debut when claiming the spoils in the open maiden for Dale Peters by five lengths. Rodeny Ian Arthur had the son of Arcadio prior to Peters, the five-year-old ran in four Irish points this spring finishing sixth on his last outing at Bellurgan in the middle of April.
