Rathbarry stallions enjoy two four-year-old successes on Sunday

Rathbarry and Glenview Stud had a successful weekend when two of their stallions sired four-year-old winners on Sunday. Shirocco's progeny, It Sure Is, recorded debut success at Ballynoe while Sholokhov's progeny, Pens Man, claimed the spoils at Lisronagh.

Four-time Group 1 winner Shirocco sired the winner of the four-year-old geldings maiden at Ballynoe. Handled by Colm Bowe, It Sure Is, held on to secure a debut victory in the hands of Michael O'Sullivan.

The €48,000 Derby sale graduate is a close relation to the Grade 1 winner Voler La Vadette trained by Colm Murphy and will now head for the sales.

Shirocco has also sired some exciting prospects for the future including Minella Royale and Silver Hallmark.

Minella Royale, a debut winner at Lingstown last November for John Nallen, was sold for £100,000 to Highflyer Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December sale. The six-year-old is yet to mIake his debut under rules.

Silver Hallmark recorded an impressive debut victory last December at Tattersalls in the four-year-old geldings for Pat Doyle. Fergal O'Brien subsequently purchased the gelding at the Tattersalls Cheltenham sale for £115,000. The five-year-old finished third in his first run on the track for O'Brien at the beginning of March.

The Group 1 winning stallion Sholokhov sired Pens Man, the winner of the four-year-olds at Lisronagh for owner/handler Sam Curling.

In the hands of Pa King, the gelding showed a good turn of foot to secure a two-length victory over Royal Crown. The €11,500 Tattersalls May sale graduate gelding is now likely to be sold.

Sholokhov has also enjoyed great success in Irish points with the likes of Wide Receiver and Muckamore.

Wide Receiver won his four-year-old debut by eight lengths in February this year for Cormack Farrell and went on to make £410,000 at the Cheltenham February sales, the second highest priced pointer on record. Gordon Elliot and Tom Malone purchased the gelding.

Muckamore is yet another pointer sired by Sholokhov to enjoy success. The bay gelding was second on his debut at Loughanmore back in November. Paul Nicholls and Tom Malone purchased the gelding for £190,000 at the Cheltenham November sales last year.
