Strong team of former pointers set for Cheltenham Gold Cup

Seven Irish point graduates will be showcased in the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Native River, last year's winner, will once again take his chance in this year's renewal of the race. The son of Indian River was third on his last outing in the Grade 1 King George chase at Kempton over Christmas for Colin Tizzard.

The nine-year-old gelding won point debut for Denis Ahern at Dromahane back in March 2014.

Tizzard also trains the pointing graduate Elegant Escape in this contest.

The son of Dubai Destination won on his four-year-old debut at Monksgrange back in April 2016 for Gordon Elliot and was subsequently sold to Tizzard for €150,000.

The Willie Mullins-trained Bellshill will also have a chance here. The Kings Theatre gelding had a good prep run when winning the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown in February this year.

The nine-year-old was second on his debut at Maralin for Colin McKeever and Wilson Dennison back in March 2014.

The only mare in the field, Shattered Love, is also in with a chance. The Gordon Elliot-trained daughter of Yeats won her debut point at Lemonfield as a four-year-old back in March 2015 for Pat Doyle.
