Arctic Cosmos Progeny Enjoys Success at Bandon

ARCTIC COSMOS is from a high class US family and stands at The Old Road Stud in Tallow, Co Waterford alongside Witness Box and Cloudings. The son of North Light had his first crop of four-year-olds in 2018 and stands for a fee of €2,500 in 2019.

The stallion enjoyed his second winner of the season from just eight pointers in training when Monty's Mission recorded success in the winner of one race at Bandon. This is the Jimmy Mangan-trained five-year-olds second consecutive win having also won at Tallow in the five-and-six-year-old race by an impressive ten lengths in February.  The mare has had three other starts in points to date coming second on two of those occasions.

The stallion has also had two winners on the track to date. Von Humboldt won a bumper on his debut at Punchestown in February last year for Charles Byrnes and Akarita Lights won on her last start in the bumper at Kelso in May 2018 for Alan King. The mare had two previous runs and was second in both.

Arctic Cosmos is a four-time winner at three and five years of age including wins in the grade one Magnolia Stakes at Kempton Park in 2012 and the grade one St Leger Stakes at Doncaster in 2010. Previous winners of the St Leger include some top national hunt stallions such as Milan, Scorpian, Brian Boru and Shantou.

The sire was trained by John Gosden during his racing career. "He won the St Leger for me, only for him to damage his cannon-bone, who knows what more there could have been, this fine looking horse will be a great asset to national hunt breeders," said Gosden.

Jockey of Arctic Cosmos William Buick said "He's a class horse. He gave me my first Classic winner in England. He really impressed me, it is a race I'll never forget."
