Former Graded winner Alelchi Inois retired following short open career

Former Graded winner Alelchi Inois, who has been running in open lightweight races this season, has been retired.

The 11-year-old amassed over €220,000 in prize money throughout a career spanning six years which brought a total of 11 victories from 33 starts.

A dual Grade 3 winner, who also enjoyed Grade 2 success in the 2016 Clonmel Oil Chase, the Night Tango-sired gelding who was placed in Grade 1 company made his debut between the flags, when providing Aubery McMahon, his owner Luke McMahon’s son, with his first ride in point-to-points when finishing eighth in a big field open lightweight for novice riders at Ballindenisk in December.

Willie Mullins’ French-bred appeared to take a step forward when re-appearing at Borrish House before Christmas, finishing sixth in a competitive race where he was beaten by just 14 lengths by the season’s leading point-to-pointer.

However Alelchi Inois was unable to get involved at Tinahely on what has now proved to be his final competitive start, trailing in in seventh at the Co. Wicklow course earlier this month in the race won by Kruzhlinin.

Aubery McMahon, who was aboard for those three point-to-point runs, announced the retirement when he posted on social media: “Alelchi Inois getting a well deserved send off on his retirement this morning. The most kind hearted horse you could ever come across.”
