Point-to-Point regular Ray Barron is set to star in what has been announced will be an expanded season two of the Gentlemen’s League.
Following its successful first season, organisers have teamed-up with the Fegentri Series, and as a result, the number of countries competing has doubled for what will be an 11 round competition.
The first leg of the European Championship dedicated to amateur jump jockeys will once again take place again in Cork, with the competitors featuring in the amateur riders hurdle on next Thuesday’s Student race day.
A native of Limerick, Barron will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Dean Sinnott by lifting the end of season title, following this year’s Gentlemen's League FEGENTRI Championship across seven difference countries in Ireland, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Belgium, England and France.
Representative from Ireland, Britain and France will once again feature in the series, where they will be joined by competitors from Italy, Sweden and the United States of America.
France - Guillaume Viel.
Guillame has enjoyed a great season in France with eleven wins to his name. He previously contested the final round of last year’s Gentleman’s League when deputising for his fellow countryman Pierre Dubourg.
Ireland – Ray Barron
Ray has built up twenty-five victories since the beginning of his career and is among the rising stars in the rank of gentlemen-riders.
England – Noel George
The son of the famous trainer Tom George, Tom is only 18 years old and he has nine wins including one at the famous Cheltenham course.
United States of America - Mark Galligan
Mark recently landed in England to improve and didn’t take long to show his qualities as a rider. He has 11 wins to his name.
Sweden - Elliot Öhgren
Elliott is best known in flat races and he will be defending Sweden’s great record in the Longines FEGENTRI Championship. He has 11 victories since the beginning of his career.
Italy - Domenico d'Alo
As a solider, Domenico has had the chance to participate several times in the prestigious Military Gold Cup at Sandown Racecourse, where he finished this year on-board a horse for Nicky Henderson.
In a further change for this year, two separate rankings will be kept this year, one focussing on riders, with the other by nation.
