NEXT GEN: Adam Feeney

Adam Feeney was one of three novice riders to ride their first winner at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening day of the season. The 18-year-old partnered Sweet Destination to a three length victory over Robin On The Hill and Derek O’Connor in the five-and-six-year-old mares’ maiden for Garrett Ahern, whom Feeney rides out for.

In our new feature on p2p.ie we will be getting to know some of the next generation of point-to-point riders that are emerging on the scene.

How did you become involved in racing?

There has always been horses at home and my father rides in point-to-points so it’s always was what I wanted to do.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Hold on to your neck strap.
 

What's your favourite course?

Castletown-Geoghegan

What's your favourite sport outside racing?

Gaa

Which is the best Irish city or town for a night out?

Dungarvan

What was the best day of your racing life?

Riding my first winner.  It's day I’ll never forget.

Sweet Destination

What’s your favourite restaurant or pub?

Horse and Jockey

And your favourite meal?

Roast beef with lots of gravy

What improvements would you make to point to pointing?

Have a novice rider’s race on every card to give younger riders a chance.

Who is the last person you want to be upsides going to the last?

Jamie Codd

Who’s your biggest influence?

My father Tom.

Ambitions For this season?

To stay injury free and get as many rides and winners as possible.
