Sean Staples first rode in a point-to-point towards the end of the 2016/17 season in a four-year-old maiden at Courtown, and was well-supported by the Ashleigh and Michael Murphy team, who supplied him with his maiden winner, Redbridge Gold, who came home in front at Lingstown in March 2018. That association with the Murphy's has gone from strength to strength as he ended the 2020/21 season joint-third in the Under-21 table with six winners.
