Conor Smith made his point-to-point debut at Dromahane in 2009 before moving to Britain where he became a champion novice rider when with Richard Barber. Having decided to turn professional in England, Smith rode over 20 track winners as a conditional for the likes of Philip Hobbs and Kevin Bishop, overcoming a fracture to his lower back in a road traffic accident in late 2016 in the process. The Downpatrick native had his first ride back in an Irish Point in seven years when riding at Dowth Hall in October 2018 on his return to the amateur ranks.
