Carrigarostig unveiled as new course for Killeagh committee

There will be a brand new venue for the annual Killeagh point-to-point, which moves to the new course of Carrigarostig, Killeagh, Co. Cork for the 19th January 2020 fixture.

The committee staged their 2019 fixture at Boulta in what was their first race meeting away from their long-standing venue at Knockane.

The new course is located less than two miles south of Killeagh Village (51.9247723,-7.9931537) and is easily accessible from the Main N25 Cork to Waterford road between Killeagh & Castlemartyr.

It is a one mile circuit that is right handed where there are five fences to be jumped on each circuit with the starting point in the region of the winning post area, which will be situated halfway up the home straight and great viewing for spectators has been assured.

Clerk of the Course Frank Motherway said: “This is a new venture for Killeagh point-to-point, and after having a 35 year relationship with the old Knockane course, we move two miles east to our newly acquired course in Carrigarostig which hopefully will be as popular with the public, owners & trainers for 2020.”

The Race programme for the day itself is outlined as follows:
Race 1 5yo Mares Maiden
Race 2 5yo Geldings Maiden
Race 3 Winners of 2 (Mares Only)
Race 4 6yo & Upwards Mares Maiden (Novice Riders)
Race 5 Open Lightweight
Race 6 6yo & Upwards Geldings Maiden
