Return of spectators to point-to-points

The start of the 2021/22 season will see the very welcome return of spectators back to the pointing fields, the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee has today confirmed.

The Ballymacad fixture at Oldcastle will be the first pointing fixture to have the honour of hosting spectators for the first time in over 18 months following the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in the entirety of the interruption-hit 2020/21 season taking place behind closed doors.

Importantly for the fixture taking place across the opening weeks of the season, the hunt committees will be required to have a contact tracing system in place to comply with the current public health requirements for sporting events. This will be facilitated at no charge by p2p.ie

All attendees, industry participants and spectators alike, will be required to register on p2p.ie in advance of attending a point-to-point fixture.

Registration will open at 9am on a Friday in advance of each weekend’s racing and will be a much shortened version of the Health Screening registration that all industry participants had to complete in order to attend pointing fixtures last season.

Attendees will be required to submit the name and contact phone number of each person that may be attending that weekend and they will receive a QR code via email which will be scanned at the entrance gate in order to permit entry. The QR code can be scanned directly from your smartphone or you can print it out.

There will be no cut off time for this registration and it can be completed throughout the weekend, although it is recommended that you complete your registration in advance of leaving your home on the morning of a fixture to avoid issues with poor phone signal.

Hunt committees will apply entrance fees to those applicable attendees at the gate once their QR code has been verified.

The full list of dates can be viewed below.
