Video Archives | Limavady September 2001

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  The next year we are adding videos from is the 2001 season.

The Route Hunt staged the first ever meeting of the Autumn Season. The Autumn Season was introduced in 2001 on account of foot and mouth.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

There was a thrilling finish to the opening race at the Route Hunts point-to-point fixture at Limavady with Brave Effect just holding on by a neck under Liam Lennon.

The four and five-year-old mares maiden went the way of the Huncheon Siss in the hands of Willie Rankin.

The open lightweight was won by Bluefire and Tommy Peoples, the son of Roselier stayed on gamely in the closing stages to keep Lobbingalong at bay. Bluefire won 13 point-to-points in total, he was owned by the Enniskillen College Racing Club.

Shanogue and Jimmy Henry combined to land the six-year-old and upwards geldings maiden.

Tommy Peoples registered a double on the day when landing the confined hunt race aboard Sigma Telecom.

Mark O’Hare won the concluding six-year-old and upwards mares maiden aboard Island Bridge.  The pair stayed on gamely in the closing stages to get up and deny Gortmerron Lady by half a length.
