Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file. The next year we are adding videos from is the 2001 season.
Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.
It was a busy day at the East Down Foxhounds point-to-point fixture which resulted in nine races.
The opening contest, the winners of two was won by Lantaur Lad in the hands of Leo Gracey.
It was an opening race double for Leo Gracey who also won division two of the winners of two aboard Bellaney Lady. Bellaney Lady was a high class pointer on her day and won five races in the colours of her breeder James Rosbotham.
Isle Beeavenue and Brian Hamilton claimed the five and six-year-old geldings maiden when holding off Eurosong and Norman Geraghty by four lengths.
The five and six-year-old geldings maiden went the way of Gola Supreme in the hands of Saul McHugh.
Our Boy was an impressive winner of the open lightweight when coming home by a distance under the guidance of Brian Hamilton carrying the familiar colours of Denis Reddan.
It was a dramatic conclusion to the five-year-old maiden as Putsometnby and Denis Cullen whilst on terms, parted company on the run-in leaving the way clear for From Little Acorns and Jimmy Henry to come home in front. Jimmy Henry will be known to many as the rider who guided Imperial Commander to win his point-to-point maiden.
Warren Ewing was in the winner’s enclosure when he landed the five-year-old mares maiden aboard Over The March.
Division one of the seven-year-old and upwards maiden went the way of Moniker when running out a five-length victory in the hands of Barry Jones.
Auto Route and Kelly Young looked set for victory in the concluding division to the seven-year-old and upwards maiden before coming to grief at last and leaving the way clear for fortunate winner World O Good and Mark O’Hare. Kelly sadly passed away two years ago, her brother is Paddy Young a five-time champion steeplechase jockey in America.
