Pointers on Track

Pointing graduates feature in Cheltenham Festival entries

The Stayers' Hurdle sees an extraordinary 14 ex pointers among an initial entry of 36 horses.

Dromahane graduate, Minella Indo is the best priced in the market of pointers for Henry De Bromhead.

A winner in Cragmore back in 2015, the highly-regarded Gordon Elliott-trained Death Duty also holds an entry in this race, having not been seen since 2017.

Also among the other ex-pointers are Ask Dylan, Bacardys, Bright Forecast, Kilbricken Storm, Kilulltagh Vic, Lisnagar Oscar, Not Many Left, Sams Profile, Surin, The Jam Man, and The Worlds End.

The Mares' Hurdle sees a further eight point-to-point graduates in the mix.

The high class mare, Honeysuckle leads the octet, remaining unbeaten to date.

Another graduate of Dromahane, Henry De Bromhead's stable star was most recently very impressive in the Grade One Hatton's Grace Hurdle.

Grand National runner up, Magic Of Light also holds an entry for the Jessica Harrington team, who was an emphatic winner of a listed mares' chase in Newbury last month.

The remainder of the entries that came through the point-to-point circuit  are Copper Gone West, Crossgalesfamegame, Hawthorn Cottage, Legend's Gold, Silver Forever, and The Glancing Queen.

The feature race on the opening day of the festival is the Champion Hurdle, which sees a further five horses entered that are graduates of the point-to-point circuit.

The aforementioned Honeysuckle also holds an entry in this prestigious race.

The unbeaten-to-date Ballinaboola graduate, and a winner of the 2019 Champion Bumper, Envoi Allen is entered in this race in a bid to add to his tally of Cheltenham wins.

Fifth in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle last year, Dromahane graduate Felix Desjy was just 11 lengths off the high class Klassical Dream on that occasion.

It looks likely that Samcro is going to go for one of the novice chases. However, the Monksgrange winner does hold an entry here.

Petit Mouchoir has been a model of consistency of late, having finished second to Sharjah over Christmas at Leopardstown.

A winner of his four-year-old maiden in Kirkistown in 2015, the Henry De Bromhead trained gelding makes up the five point-to-point graduates in the Champion Hurdle.
