We were saddened to hear of the recent passing of J J Harty, a stalwart of the Cork – Waterford point-to-point region.
J J was well known for his involvement in the point-to-point scene in the area, completing trojan work not only as hunt secretary of the Cloyne hunt but also for his involvement as chairman for the Cork – Waterford point-to-point committee.
Living in Castlemartyr in Cork, JJ was also highly regarded for breeding some smart performers over the years including Strong Pursuit who went on to be rated 139 for Philip Hobbs, Thomas Do who was an impressive maiden winner at Belclare for Richard Black, four-time point-to-point winner Sixteen Letters.
A Hardy Nailer who won three times for J P McManus, Local Show a five time winner between-the-flags and recent bumper winner Orrisdale amongst many others.
J J will certainly be well remembered for his huge contribution to the point-to-point industry and will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret (nee Crowley), children Edmond, Muriel and Roger, siblings Eddie and Marian.
Along with his grandchildren Saoirse, Dáire, Muireann, Megan, Ellen, Aisling, Emma and Ali, son-in-law Art, daughters-in-law Sarah and Amy, extended family, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
May he rest in peace.
